Taste Test: By the numbers
On Wednesday, May 10th, 2006, a taste test was conducted at Faith Presbyterian Pre-School in Tallahassee, Florida. The children were asked to taste three juices: orange, apple, and Orpple. The test consisted of two trials. The first was blind, in which the children were not told what juice they were tasting. Then, in the second trial, the same children were given the names of the juices.
In trial #1, 55% of the children chose apple juice, 36% chose Orpple Juice, and 9% chose orange juice.
In trial #2, when the children were told that they were tasting apple juice, orange juice, and “a new drink called Orpple Juice”, the results were significantly different: 9% of the children still chose orange juice, but only 9% chose apple juice and a whopping 82% chose Orpple Juice!

The results in this trial showed an amazing 228% increase for Orpple once the children heard what the juice was named. Orpple was preferred over the previous favorite, apple juice, by 911%. Given the market share of apple juice in the children's drink market, these results illustrate the potential for Orpple to significantly impact this market.
